Don’t think you need the oversight of a Controller or the advanced financial advice of a CFO?  Here are just a few of the things we’ll help you with when you hire our firm to provide these roles in your organization:

Budgeting

Your Controller will know how much things cost in your organization. It’s imperative that you have an operating budget and that it is used to compare actual results to estimates. As your Controller, we will assist you in creating your budgets and on a monthly basis we’ll provide you with an analysis of your budget versus actuals, interpret the results and explain them to you in terms that you’ll understand. Because we have regularly scheduled conversations with you, you’ll have a complete picture of your progress toward your company’s financial goals and whether you are on target at all times. Better information means you’ll make smarter decisions when operating your organization.

Board Reports

Each month your Controller will provide you with a package of financial reports for your board of directors and finance committee to use during their meetings.  You’ll specify the exact reports your board needs and we’ll prepare them along with an executive summary of your organization’s operations for the month and fiscal year to date.  If you are not sure about the reports that you’ll need, our highly competent nonprofit specialists will help you determine what information you need and which reports they can provide to you to supply the desired information.

Operational Analysis

Your assigned Controller will know at all times the operating results of the different segments of your organization, whether you call them departments, ministries, missions, or functions, we’ll be monitoring them.  Your Controller pays attention to the different segments of your organization and knows your costs of services and your revenue sources.  As your CFO we will break down the different segments or departments and carefully analyze each. Imagine all the good your organization can do when you’re able to optimize your efforts and focus on only the most effective parts of your mission because you have kept better control over expenditures and revenue sources. Our analyses will give you more confidence in your organization’s financial data.

Key Predictive Indicators

Your CFO will know when it’s time to adjust your strategy. Yes, even nonprofit organizations need strategy to operate at highest effectiveness and efficiency.  We’ll set up key predictive indicators (KPIs) customized just for your organization and continuously monitor them and report back to you. Your Executive Director and Board Members will have their very own financial “dashboard” of the metrics that mean the most to them in order to keep an eye on your operations. Together we can determine when it is an optimal time for a new initiative or pull the plug on an existing initiative. Using the power of KPI’s we’ll help you drive financial improvement initiatives such as improved cost management, supply-chain management, strategic fundraising and marketing innovations that add value to those who rely on your organization’s mission.

Tax Planning and Preparation

You’ll have an assigned Tax Manager at your disposal. You should think of your CFO and Controller as more than just accountants. They work closely with your assigned Tax Manager, to make sure that your nonprofit organization stays in compliance with government regulations and federal and state tax statutes. Your assigned financial team will advise you on smart tax moves all year long, monitoring your situation monthly.   They’ll advise you of how the current tax laws affect your nonprofit organization and prepare all the required tax forms that you’ll need.  Your team will keep you compliant and help you protect your tax-exempt status with proactive advice.  With our team on your side, there are never any surprises at tax time.  They are available any time to handle your tax questions and concerns.
